Guns and Butter

So Dick Cheney shot a guy and democrats ("we") are focusing on the fact that the administration waited 14 hours to release the information. The big conspiracy theory is that the Vice President was drunk and needed to sober up before he spoke to anyone (including the sheriff who, incidentally was allegedly barred from speaking to Mr. Cheney by the secrete Service for a number of hours).

Is it just me or are we focusing on the wrong thing? Shouldn't we be using this opportunity to talk about the Second Amendment and gun control? "The White House is being secretive" story is kind of played out. Can we please move on from our current agenda of "we hate Bush" and actually stand for something again? It's kind of embarrassing. If we do win the house back, what will we do when we get there? Are we just going to stop Bush from doing anything for spite or are we going to miraculously come up with something that we stand for and try to help people? It seems to me that if we win the house and then stop government for the sake of stopping government, we won't be able to win the White House in 2008.
